Montenegro & Albania
November 20, 2018

Our journey through Montenegro and Albania was fleeting for two reasons. The first was that we had a date to get to Greece because we had several arrangements the most important being that we had to meet the Gutiérrez family there. The other reason was that both countries are outside the EU and therefore we had none of the benefits offered by being in the EU (mainly free health care) so we took out insurance for the days we spend crossing these two countries.
That said, we have to admit that these are countries that we believe deserve a longer stay. In Montenegro you can not miss the Bay of Kotor, it’s spectacular! The town of the same name is beautiful, one of our favorites at the moment, it’s like traveling in time, a walled town, with cobblestone streets, squares, terraces and charming corners everywhere you look … You can also find coaches and cruises full of tourists if you come in high season so, whenever you can, avoid the summer months. The difference between traveling in summer or out of season is huge, the sites seem different places!
In our opinion, you can save yourself the trip to the capital, Podgorica, but if you do pass by there do not miss the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, it is very impressive. After the visit to the capital, we made a “technical” stop at a hotel in Vranjina that was quite interesting to say the least. The hotel was deserted, it looked like it had been for sometime, but with an owner was an interesting man. He was very kind and proudly showed us the collection of antiques that he housed in his hotel, he told us stories about the Balkan war and the hardships that still happen in the country while we served us a Turkish coffee. It’s a pity we did not speak the same language to hear many more of his stories! Our communication was through Italian, which neither of us have a really firm grasp of.
Our time in Albania, just one weekend, led us to discover the beautiful town of Berat (do not miss it if you visit the country, it is really worth seeing) and also Gjirokäster, which, although nice too, does not reach the level of the first.
The adventure continues in Greece, country where we entered on the 13th of August and in which we still are on the 20th of November, so we have much to explain!
Como siempre dar las gracias por invitarnos a compartir una pequeña parte de vuestros viajes ❤ es todo un placer y un privilegio tener unos guias con tanto entusiasmo por todas las ciudades y paises que visitais😚
